Students from the School of Computing (SoC) and School of Technology (SoT) recently took center stage at Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU), pushing the boundaries of digital creation during the Final Year Project (FYP) Showcase 2025.

The highly anticipated event brought together creative minds and technical experts from 17 diverse academic programmes. Serving as an engaging platform to bridge academia and industry, the showcase allowed graduating students to present their technical expertise and problem-solving abilities directly to industry professionals.

A major highlight of the event was the Best Multimedia & VR/AR Innovation Award category, which recognized outstanding students who are shaping the future of spatial computing and interactive media.

Top Honors in VR/AR Innovation

Following a rigorous two-round evaluation—where industry and internal judges assessed projects based on innovation, technical execution, storytelling, and mapping to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—three exceptional VR/AR students claimed the top spots:

  • Lai Hawkin

  • Mohammad Aizzul Luqman

  • Lim Zhen Xian

These students demonstrated an exceptional ability to merge creativity with advanced technical prowess, proving their readiness to tackle real-world challenges in the rapidly growing Extended Reality (XR) and multimedia industries.

Bridging Academia and the Digital Industry

The FYP Showcase wasn’t just about awards; it was a launchpad for career readiness. The event fostered meaningful connections by bringing in industry judges and sponsors like Averis Sdn Bhd, PayNet, Rocheston, and AirAsia. These industry giants not only provided professional feedback but also engaged directly with students regarding internships and job placements.

With generous sponsorships contributing a total of RM13,000 towards cash prizes and flight tickets for the winners, the event significantly elevated the rewards for outstanding student achievements.

The resounding success of the VR/AR innovators at the FYP Showcase 2025 reaffirms APU’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of tech-savvy digital leaders. Supported by state-of-the-art facilities like the XR Studio, APU graduates are well-equipped to drive the future of immersive technology.
